Background[]

Initially scheduled for release on April 8, 2013, On Air with Ryan Seacrest began streaming Come & Get It online after being leaked earlier that day.[1] Its lyrics describe an addiction to a troublesome romance; media outlets speculated that the song was directed towards Gomez's former boyfriend Justin Bieber, though Gomez denied the claims. Come & Get It was previously recorded for Rihanna's 2012 album Unapologetic, but was ultimately not included in the record.

The song was written by Ester Dean, M.S. Eriksen, and T.E. Hermansen and was produced by Stargate. Meanwhile, the vocals were produced by Dreamlab. The song features elements of electropop and even Indian music. Gomez stated:

"I just remember recording it and being in the studio and just thinking of how the place I was in and what I was going through and I was just so excited about it and I wanted it to be the first single".

What song did Selena Gomez sample in Come and Get It?[]

Is a sample of Bollywood Sounds's "Dachee" (vocals) (a solo male vocal and percussion from Gaurav Dayal's label Bollywood Sounds, which specializes in creating sample packs featuring Indian instruments and performers) mixed with the sample "BT_DHOLAK_TABLA_ENS_95_2" by Gaurav Dayal (instrument) (which shows the tabla sound. A Tabla is a pair of twin hand drums from the Indian subcontinent, that are somewhat similar in shape to the bongos).

The words at the starting of the song are in Punjabi.

Critical reception[]

After being released, the song received generally favorable reviews from music critics, who noted Gomez's maturing image and new sound. Kyle Anderson of Entertainment Weekly described it as an easy, breezy tune with an ambling melody and a hint of reggae lilt. Jessica Sager of PopCrush gave it a mixed review, stating that the track is a change and a shift, and it was a risk. Gomez may win new fans with the song since it’s pretty far outside of her usual bubblegum Disney box, and her loyal Selenators will likely eat it up regardless. However, for fans of pure pop, they may want to stick with her ex-boyfriend". Meanwhile, Bradley Stern of MuuMuse.com has referenced it as one of Rihanna's tracks from her sixth studio album Talk That Talk but gave it a positive review, stating that Come & Get It is fairly monotone, but repeat listens reveal the song’s infectiousness: The chorus especially with that stuttered chant at the end is pure sticky pop goodness, the stomping beat is smutty enough to inspire a sick strut, and that whirring Bollywood-meets-tribal-electro synth sound lends itself well to some grind-up-against-the-wall make-out action up in the club. On-air-personality, Peter Dee, also gave the song a very positive review, stating that, The Ester Dean-penned and StarGate produced track is a breezy vacation from everything else that our favorite pop divas are currently doing on the radio. She may not have a voice as big as fellow former Disney star, Demi Lovato, but Selena's breathy vocals are just what the song needed to fuse the Bollywood and electro-pop sound, and make it work. Selena Gomez performed Come & Get It at the MTV Movie Awards on April 14th, 2013, The Ellen Show on the April 16th, 2013, and Radio Disney Music Awards on April 27th, 2013.

Selena Gomez - Come & Get It

Music video

It was directed by Anthony Mandler, known for his frequent collaborations with Rihanna, Lana Del Rey and Taylor Swift.[2] Recorded at the Tejon Ranch in Tejon, California and another parts of LA, California. The video features a recurring theme of the classical elements, being air, earth, fire, and water.

Gomez referred to "Come & Get It" as being her best video thus far. Selena and Anthony hoped for the clothing in the clip to be "sensual" in nature, with Gomez selecting the black corset dress used during a scene in the music video. The dress was designed by AADNEVIK (Kristian Aadnevik’s AW13 collection). Selena said "And that [black] dress was actually a last-minute dress because I was wanting it to be more long-sleeved. But with the field and everything and the setting, [Mandler] wanted it to be a little more sensual. I get it: it's a beautiful dress and I definitely love the pop with my hair." Gomez said that she thought Mandler's concept was a "perfect" representation of her track, and that she was glad to "have a little more creative control" over the video that usual since she wanted to use her experience in the movie industry to make the video "almost look like a film." Despite being "nervous" about the final product, she still felt it was the best music video of her career at the time.

Synopsis[]

The video starts off with Gomez in a meadow wearing a black dress in the start of a storm . It then shows waves, a close shot of Gomez and the man she loves. She then starts singing and she wears a red dress while dancing what seems like Indian moves. It then shows images of Gomez emerging in water, sliding between mirrors, in the same meadow wearing a tan dress, and her Indian dancers. The video then ends with Gomez in the same meadow wearing her black dress lying in the grass as the storm fades.

Lyrics[]

When you're ready come and get it
Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na
When you're ready come and get it
Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na
When you're ready, when you're ready
When you're ready come and get it
Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na

You ain't gotta worry, it's an open invitation
I'll be sitting right here real patient
All day, all night, I'll be waiting standby
Can't stop, because I love it
Hate the way I love you
All day, all night
Maybe I'm addicted for life, no lie

I'm not too shy to show I love you
I got no regrets
I love you much too much to hide you
This love ain't finished yet
This love ain't finished yet
So baby, whenever you're ready

When you're ready come and get it
Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na
When you're ready come and get it
Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na
When you're ready, when you're ready
When you're ready come and get it
Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na

You got the kind of love that I want, let me get that
Let me get that, yeah
And baby, once I get it, I'm yours, no take-backs
Gone love you for life, I ain't leaving your side
Even if you knock it, ain't no way to stop it
Forever, you're mine
Baby, I'm addicted, no lie, no lie

I'm not too shy to show I love you
I got no regrets
So baby, whenever you're ready.

When you're ready come and get it
Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na
When you're ready come and get it
Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na
When you're ready, when you're ready
When you're ready come and get it
Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na

This love will be the death of me
But I know I'll die happily
I'll know, I'll know, I'll know
Because you love me so
Yeah

When you're ready come and get it
Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na
When you're ready come and get it
Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na
I'm gonna get it, yeah yeah
When you're ready, when you're ready
When you're ready come and get it
When you're ready, when you're ready
Come and get it, get it
Na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na, na-na-na-na
